A Legacy of Precision and Elegance

Chapuis specialises in handcrafted hunting shotguns — over-and-under and side-by-side — double rifles, and Manurhin revolvers.

A cornerstone of the Chapuis shotgun range is the Super Orion over-and-under, a model that has played a defining role in the brand’s history. In 2008, Chapuis introduced the Round Design action, marking a major aesthetic and technical evolution of the Super Orion line. Featuring a unique Blitz system, the Super Orion combines mechanical simplicity, reliability, and excellent balance. One of its key strengths lies in its exceptionally high level of customisation, available from the very first grade of finish, allowing shooters to tailor technical characteristics, stock dimensions, engraving styles, and wood selection to their individual needs.

Launched in 2017, the original ROLS set the benchmark for fast, low-disturbance straight-pull shooting with its robust radial Chapuis Locking System (CLS). In 2024, Chapuis unveiled the ROLS 2, enhancing the original concept and introducing the revolutionary Switch Trigger System (STS) alongside refined ergonomics and an even smoother action.

Another standout is the Chapuis X4 Classic, a double rifle that evokes the elegance of early 20th-century safari arms. With its refined lines and robust free-floating barrel system, the X4 Classic is ideal for plains and driven game aficionados seeking both performance and heritage.

For those who prefer traditional side-by-side rifles and shotguns, the Chapuis Progress platform offers modernised features while retaining the timeless charm of classic guns.

The company’s commitment to quality is evident in its semi-artisanal production model, with approximately 2,500 guns crafted annually.

French Craftsmanship

Nestled in the Loire region of central France, Chapuis Armes has long been a beacon of artisanal gunmaking. Founded in 1936 by Jean-Louis Chapuis in Saint-Bonnet-le-Château, the company has evolved throughout the decades from a family-run workshop into a globally recognised name in premium hunting firearms.

Since its acquisition by Beretta Holding in 2019, Chapuis has expanded its international footprint, particularly in the United States. The company is one of the last remaining French firearm manufacturers and continues to be operated by the founding family, now under the leadership of Vincent Chapuis, representing the third generation.

A Tribute to Mr. René Chapuis

René Chapuis, who passed away in July 2025 at the age of 84, contributed significantly to French gunmaking for more than fifty years. Born into a family of artisans, he joined his father in the late 1950s and participated in the development of Chapuis Armes as an internationally recognized company.

During his tenure, the firm became known for its double express rifles, as well as the Progress and the Super Orion, which expanded the accessibility of high-performance firearms. He retired in 2004, passing the business on to his sons. René Chapuis will be remembered for his dedication and lasting legacy.
